Materials
2 balls Red Heart Casual Cot'n (bulky weight, 4 oz/140 yd) in Preppie - (I used just a teeny bit of the second)
"J" Hook (6.00 mm)
Stitch Marker
Yarn needle to weave in ends
Finished size: 23.5" circumference

Instructions
(This pattern is worked in the round with no joining at the end of the rows)
Special Stitch - Cross Stitch - Skip next sc, dc in next sc, dc in skipped sc
Top:
Ch 4, sl st in 4th ch from hook to form loop
Row 1: ch 1, 8 sc into loop
(For every row hereafter, mark your first sc with your stitch marker to keep track of your rows)
Row 2: 2 sc in each sc (16 sc)
Row 3: (2 sc in next sc, sc in next sc); repeat around (24 sc)
Row 4: (2 sc in next sc, sc in next 2 sc); repeat around (32 sc)
Row 5: sc in each sc around (40 sc)
Row 6: (2 sc in next sc, sc in next 3 sc); repeat around (40 sc)
Row 7: (2 sc in next sc, sc in next 4 sc); repeat around (48 sc)
Row 8: (2 sc in next sc, sc in next 5 sc); repeat around (56 sc)
Row 9: (2 sc in next sc, sc in next 6 sc); repeat around (64 sc)
Row 10: sc in each sc around (64 sc)
Row 11: (2 sc in next sc, sc in next 7 sc); repeat around (72 sc)
(Note: to make smaller, work only to row 9 or 10, taking time to measure the circumference to your preference)
Side:
Row 12: Working in Back Loop Only, sc in each sc around
Rows 13 - 15: sc in each sc around
Row 16: sl st into first sc of last row (since you are working in a spiral, it is the stitch where the stitch marker is currently), ch 3, work cross stitch around. You will have one extra sc at end of row - ch 1, join with sl st to ch 3.
Rows 17-18: sc in each sc around
Row 19: repeat row 16
Rows 20- 23: sc in each sc around
Brim:
Row 24: Working in Front Loops Only, (2 sc in next sc, sc in next 2 sc); repeat around
Rows 25 - 29: sc in each sc around; finish off
Weave in ends and enjoy!
